With the release of ‘Tron: Legacy’ just a few weeks away, Disney decided this would be the perfect time to announce that they’ll be producing a new animated series, ‘Tron: Uprising.’ The show will make its debut on the small screen in the summer of 2012 and will feature a voice cast of interesting names — including Elijah Wood as the series’ main character.
Wood plays Beck, “who leads a revolution inside the Grid’s computer world.” The Grid, of course, is an advanced, digital universe created by leading video-game developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) in the 1982 movie. In ‘Tron: Legacy’ Flynn’s son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) enters the grid to find his father who has been trapped there for 20 years.
In addition to Wood, the animations of ‘Tron’s’ digital frontier will also be voiced by Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Lance Henriksen, and Bruce Boxleitner. That’s quite a roundup. Disney XD will air ‘Uprising,’ along with the previously announced 10-episode ‘Tron’ microseries, which starts in fall 2011.
