New ‘Dark Shadows’ Still Gives A Close-Up Look At Johnny Depp

With every new awesome image revealed of Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows,” we feel more and more guilty about reacting negatively in our first look at his make-up in the upcoming Tim Burton film. A new shot of Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins shows him looking a bit more kid-friendly than we came to think of the character in the cult TV series, but we’re still digging the look.

Up until now, the images we’ve seen from the film have seemed to imply that Burton was taking a darker route, but could it be that “Dark Shadows” will have kid-friendly components as well? We’ll just have to wait for the first trailer to get a better sense of what the movie has in store.

When MTV News caught up with Chloe Moretz at the People’s Choice Awards, she argued that “Dark Shadows” would play to both younger and older crowds because of the way it brings together Burton-lovers and fans of the old TV show.

“I think also it’s open to the older group that actually saw the TV show back in the 1970s,” she said. “And also the new group that love Tim Burton, and they love supernatural movies and TV shows.”

Moretz added, “I think it’s a really revolutionary movie.”

“Dark Shadows” stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Moretz and Gulliver McGrath. It’s due in theaters on May 11.

Vin Diesel Suits Up As ‘Riddick’ In New Set Photo

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… Vin Diesel on the set of “Riddick“?

While we’re just happy to see that the movie is busy filming, we’re a bit confused by Diesel’s superhero style get-up. Is this the vengeance-seeking gear in Riddick’s part of the universe? We can’t wait to find out.

The image comes courtesy of Diesel’s Facebook page, where he thanked his fans for giving him the chance to make a new “Riddick” movie. “Grateful for the opportunity to make magic,” he wrote.

There has been a lot of activity recently prepping the upcoming film. “Battlestar Galactica” actress Katee Sackhoff joined the production as the female lead, Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tasked with hunting down Riddick. In addition, Jordi Molla is playing the movie’s villain, a man named Santana bent on killing Riddick. Karl Urban will reprise his role as Lord Vaako.

David Twohy returns to direct his third Riddick film. He helmed the previous two entries, “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick.” The movie does not have a set release date yet.

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie: “Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.”

Peter Jackson Exits Middle-Earth, Enters MTV’s Sundance Photo Booth!

As someone whose college moviegoing experiences are defined by “Lord of the Rings,” watching Peter Jackson in action at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this morning was a bit of a thrill. The man has traded Middle-earth for Park City this week to support “West of Memphis,” the powerful documentary he produced about the conviction, imprisonment and eventual release of the West Memphis Three — and, of course, to kick off our annual Sundance celebrity photo booth series!

Jackson (alongside “Memphis” director Amy Berg) swung by MTV News’ headquarters at the Puma Social Club to discuss the documentary and the impact he hopes it will have after its Sundance premiere this evening. Bonus points for a nice “Hobbit” update, too! Stay tuned for all of that and more very soon.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Reveals Tom Hardy As Bane

FROM MTV SPLASH PAGE: Christopher Nolan’s first two Batman movies were not only great films, but they also set a new standard for viral marketing campaigns. With today’s launch of “The Dark Knight Rises” website, it appears that they’ve moved the bar even higher, and revealed the first look at the character everyone’s wondering about: Tom Hardy as Bane.

Like all good marketing campaigns, the big payoff was revealed only after fans conducted some sleuthing worthy of the Dark Knight himself, and it all started with the launch of an official website at TheDarkKnightRises.com.

‘Scream 4′ Photo: David Arquette Is In Danger

You’ve made it this far, Dewey, but can you go four for four?

If we’re being honest, we’re starting to worry about Woodsboro’s favorite law man. “Scream” protagonist Dwight “Dewey” Riley has survived his fair share of encounters with the nefarious Ghostface, but can he live through a fourth round against the masked serial killer? If this latest photo from “Scream 4” is any indication, Dewey may have finally met his match.

After the jump, check out the three reasons why we’re growing increasingly weary about Dewey’s survival odds!

Eye Of The Tiger Pussy Cat
If fear is in the eye of the beholder, then the beholder — Officer Riley — looks like he’s just wet himself. Dewey’s got his gun drawn in this latest photo, but the look on his face isn’t one of confidence; it’s one of sheer terror. And if there’s one weapon at Ghostface’s disposal sharper than his knife, it’s fear.

Fright And Flight
Dewey isn’t the only one choking back a gasp. In the background, you can see that all of the men and women inside of this establishment (is it a bar?) are all headed in the same direction: namely, straight for the door. But what are they running from?

A Killer In The Mix
The answer to that question could be right in front of us. In the midst of the crowd, just past the railing, we see him bright and clear: none other than Ghostface himself, staring up at the ladder-climbing Dewey. Unfortunately, Dewey doesn’t feel the eyes burning in the back of his head. Perhaps he’ll feel the blade that’s about to pierce his back?

Are you worried about Dewey’s survival odds? Is this the final hoorah for David Arquette in the “Scream” series, or are we blowing things out of proportion? You tell us in the comments section and on Twitter!

‘The Hobbit’ Cast Gathers Together For The First Time

We’re still a few weeks away until that March 21 start date on “The Hobbit,” but that doesn’t mean we have to wait that long to see the merry band of dwarves for the first time.

Check it out for yourselves, folks: at a press conference held in New Zealand yesterday, all thirteen members of the company of dwarves and Bilbo Baggins himself gathered together in public for the very first time since their casting was announced.

In addition to posing for photos, Martin Freeman and the gang answered questions from the local press, with the titular Hobbit himself weighing in on his impressions of Peter Jackson so far: “With as many Oscars as he’s got, he is phenomenally and genuinely normal. It’s not an act; it’s not a put on. Some people have studied normal, some people are hip normal – ‘Look at me, I’m being normal!’ – but Peter is really an artist.”

Jed Brophi, who plays the dwarf Nori, said of his involvement in the project: “It’s more exciting than I could possibly say. I feel incredibly honored and privileged to be in the film. Hopefully, I’ll make it all the way through without being killed!”

The chorus of “no guarantees” from his fellow cast members should be a strong indicator of the trials and tribulations that await the cast and crew involved with “The Hobbit.” Something tells us that the grueling journey will be worth it.

New ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1′ Posters Give Dobby, Bellatrix Their Due

Dobby Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows posterJust when you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more posters for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” (after all, we already have these and these and these and this and this), three more posters have popped up. No need to worry, they adhere to the same level of awesome as the previous posters and — gasp! — even show us some new things.

The new batch of posters includes Dobby and Bellatrix Lestrange character banners and an extra-long bus wrap, all three of which add to the slowly mounting anticipation for the November 19 release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” In addition to the fresh crop of images, Warner Bros. will be unveiling a never-before-seen sneak peek at the film at the 2010 Scream Awards, which air October 19 on Spike. And we’re sure a whole mess of “Potter” TV spots, talk show appearances and what not will ensue. But until then, you can feast your eyes on the three posters after the jump.

The Dobby poster is in the same vein as the up-close character banners that we loved so much the first time around. Of the three new posters, this one is hands down our favorite, because it both shows the vulnerability Dobby has in “Part 1″ and highlights him as being on the story’s main characters (finally!). Just look at those eyes!

Similarly, the Bellatrix image calls to mind these character posters. Considering Ms. Lestrange is easily one of our favorite villains in the films, we’re glad she’s also being highlighted so much.

Last but not least, there’s the epic bus poster for “Part 1″ (click on the image below for a larger, easier-to-see version). The idea is pretty simple: It takes the escape from 4 Privet Drive (during which most of the good guys are disguised as Mr. Potter) and turns it into the basic good versus evil fight that’s underlined the entire series. It’s not the grittiest or darkest of the “Potter” posters by a long shot, but it’s cool nonetheless.

Johnny Depp Visits Fans Dressed As Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka And More

How cool is Johnny Depp? When he (or his publicist) got a letter from an adorable British third grader requesting pirate Captain Jack Sparrow’s help in rising up in mutiny against teachers at Meridian Primary School in Greenwich, south-east London — where J.D. just happens to be filming “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” — ‘ol John boy knew just what to do: keep the Sparrow dreads on after work and swish on down to the school for some real-life pirating. After regaling the kids with some swashbuckling songs and dances, Depp wisely counseled the tot to hold off on the mutiny, since, you know, the authorities were keeping an eye on him.

That just got us thinking about how awesome it would be if Johnny dressed up as some of his other legendary characters and paid in-character visits to other totally inappropriate audiences.

Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands

Click here or on the image above for our gallery of Edward Scissorhands visiting a petting zoo (ouch), Willy Wonka shilling candy to the “Biggest Loser” cast and more fun stuff.

Don Juan DeMarco Visits the Carmelite Sisters
DJD heard there were a whole bunch of ladies hanging around with no other men in sight, so he figured that was just the place for him to show off some of his patented loverman charms… until he found out they were celibate nuns.

Edward Scissorhands at the Petting Zoo
Poor Eddie Sciss, he can’t ride in hot air balloons, is banned from the jumpy at Chuck E. Cheese’s and is absolutely never again allowed to go tubing on the river. Imagine his dismay, then, when he went down to the local petting zoo and, well, you can imagine.

Raoul Duke and the Driver’s Ed Class
The one person you absolutely, positively don’t want as your driver’s ed teacher is that perpetually hallucinating, substance hoovering, cigarette chomping “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” lunatic Raoul Duke. Though he is apparently a hell of a parallel parker.

Willy Wonka and the ‘Biggest Loser’
You thought Charlie Bucket was disappointed when Willy initially told him he had blown his chance at that lifetime supply of Wonka bars cuz of that stunt with the fizzy lifting drink? Imagine how the weight-obsessed contestants of “The Biggest Loser” would feel if the trippy candyman showed up to surprise them with a truckload of Wonka treats?
