Samsung, Orange & Barclaycard Bring NFC A Step Closer

The facility to pay for goods with your phone has edged closer to becoming a reality following the unveiling of a new service from Orange and Barclaycard.

Quick-Tap was created by the UK network in conjunction with the credit card giant and will allow users to make small purchases using their mobiles as a virtual wallet.

The service débuted on the Samsung Tocco Quick-Tap, released today, and it is hoped that the functionality will be rolled out to other devices in the near future.

Barclaycard, Barclays and Orange credit card users can transfer up to £100 on to the handset, although the amount available to spend on individual purchases is capped at £15.

Quick-Tap is the first mobile payment service of its kind in the UK to make use of NFC technology, a move which industry insiders say will aid the adoption of the technology by mobile manufacturers, retailers and networks .
