2011 Budget is a mixed victory for UK games industry

The UK games business scored a win in 23 March's Budget announcement, as industry group TIGA has successfully lobbied for an increase in tax credits. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne promised that the R&D tax credit will be increased by 200 percent, starting this April.

"This is a decisive victory by TIGA which will benefit not just the UK games industry but also the wider UK economy," said CEO Dr Richard Wilson. He says the bonus credits will deliver 60 to 70 percent more value to game developers than the current regime, and could be worth around £7 million to the industry as a whole.
