Ubuntu 10.10 arrives, codenamed Maverick Meerkat

Ubuntu creator Canonical has announced that version 10.10 of its free Linux-based operating system is set to become available on 10 October, 2010. That's a whole lot of "10"s. It's been codenamed Maverick Meerkat.

The software includes a long list of improvements, but three are particularly notable. There's a cloud-based storage service bundled in called Ubuntu One. There's an all-new interface called Unity which bears in mind the needs of mobile users. And there's the introduction of the Ubuntu Software Centre, which is a bit like an App Store for Ubuntu users.
