We pit the LG Optimus Pad up against the HTC Flyer
We see how the HTC Flyer fares against LG’s 3D capable Optimus Pad.
Form:
LG Optimus Pad – 243.8 x 150 x 12.7 mm, 621 g
HTC Flyer – 195.4 x 122 x 13.2 mm, 420.8 g
The Optimus Pad is larger and heavier but it has nicer proportions. Plus, the design aesthetic is more appealing to the eye. We’re not enamoured by the Flyer’s unpleasant bulging silver plastic back panel. The LG is neat and simple, but has more of a premium look too it – it’s also a bit thinner too.
Winner – LG Optimus Pad
Display:
LG’s Optimus pad uses an 8.9-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen at 768 x 1280 pixels. For display features it has multi-touch input and an accelerometer.
The HTC Flyer is fitted with a smaller 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen at a slightly lower resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels. It comes with the HTC Sense user interface (UI) preinstalled and features the standard accelerometer and multi-touch. Aside from the more common features it also sports handwriting support and capacitive buttons under the glass display which rotate with the interface.
We prefer the LG’s larger screen size combined with the higher resolution.
Winner – LG Optimus Pad
Storage:
Both the LG and HTC boast identical storage setups with a nicely sized 32GB of internal storage each and 1 GB of RAM. Card support in both is the usual with Micro SD up to 32 GB.

Processor:
HTC has opted for a 1.5 GHz single core Qualcomm processor on the Snapdragon chipset, it should give pretty fast and responsive performance and it’s a decent enough set up, but compared to the LG Optimus’ dual core 1GHz AP20H processor running NVidia’s Tegra 2 chipset, it’s really not enough in our opinion.
The 1.5 GHz clock speed is impressive and we always like Qualcomm tech but the single core processor simply isn’t going to give the same performance as the LG’s dual core power plant and graphics processing unit.
Winner – LG Optimus Pad
